So, you’re looking for that perfect makeup look to compliment your LBD? Well you’re in luck, because a black dress is the perfect canvas to get really creative with – it all depends on the occasion and the mood you’re in, but in theory you could do just about ANY makeup look. See below 3 different makeup styles you can wear along with your black dress, we’ll tell you now though none of these include a black smoky eye – makeup is just so much more fun than that.
People will tell you that with makeup the focus should either be on your eyes or on your lips, not both. Well I’m here to tell you not to listen to all that. When the outfit is simple, like a black dress, the you can have as much fun with the makeup as you want. I mean, don’t choose colors that completely clash, but that’s just the rules of color not makeup. If the color palette you use for your eyeshadow and lipstick is complementary, then you can really go for it. Just pick colors that look good on you and you’re all set! If it feels like too much for you, then simply adding a pop of color to just your eyes will also do the trick!

Red lips have always been a black dress’s best friend, with a simple line of black eyeliner they achieve the ultimate femme fatale look. I’m not going to contradict that. What I am going to say though is don’t be afraid to try out different lip colors. A dark vampy lip color like burgundy or a chocolate brown will look beautiful with olive skin tones. If you’re really daring, and the occasion allows, why not black?!

I love a good liner, but beyond the classic winged liner there’s SO much else you can do. Try using a different color liner, create a graphic design or add a few dots here and there for embellishment, and if you want something more subtle, go for a brown liner! Use whichever color lipstick you want for that extra POP, or keep the focus on the eyes with a nude lip.
