You know when you first hear an annoying song on the radio and you can’t stand it, but because of how overplayed it is, it slowly creeps into your brain and one day you catch yourself humming it at work and gradually find yourself full on belting it out in your car thinking “when did I actually start enjoying this..?”
Well, the same thing happened with the ‘90s hair clip trend.

That trend died hard in the mid-2000s and we all thought it was going to be kept in the past. Little did we know, we were so wrong. The 90s hair clip trend has returned with a BANG like no other. When I first saw this trend showcased at the fashion weeks, and then started seeing bloggers catching on to this hair clip trend, I was thinking “stop trying to make it happen, the pins are never going to happen!”, just like clogs never happened.
I then quickly realized that I was so SO wrong. Months went on and the trend was not dying, on the contrary, the trend blew up so much that I couldn’t even scroll through Instagram without seeing a picture of at least a handful of girls rocking this trend, adding a twist of their own to it.
Just like that annoying song I hated, but slowly found myself warming up to it, I also found myself in the same situation with those darn hair clips. I’ve now not only accepted that the hair clips are here to stay, but have also started thinking about how to incorporate them into my look without looking like my 12-year-old self. (Who btw, looked up to Hilary Duff from Lizzie McGuire, for style inspo #MAJORCRINGE)

I learnt that you can follow the trend without looking like an awkward teen just entering puberty with no sense of style. Creating that high fashion look has many ways to go on about it. You can creatively style exposed bobby pins to pin down the hair on either side of your face, or choose a statement Gucci barrette or snap clip to express your take on it.
