#FashionFriday: Hydro-Dipped Sneakers

Sneakers – they come in all forms, shapes, and sizes and are made by almost every shoe brand around the world. Sneaker trends in fashion have evolved heavily over the years from bulky to light, to colorful, to chunky, and to luxurious. Recently, a new sneaker trend has emerged, and it has taken the Internet by storm – hydro-dipping.

What is Hydro-Dipping?

We’ve all heard of tie-dying clothes – this is just about the same thing but with your sneakers! Water transfer printing, also known as hydro-dipping, is a method of applying printed designs to three-dimensional surfaces. The resulting combinations may be considered decorative art or applied art.

How to Hydro-Dip

Start by taping the shoes on the sections where you don’t want to hydro dip with paint tape and fill up a clean, empty bucket with about 70–80% of water. Then, splash spray paint on little by little depending on how many colors you’ve chosen – for it to work best, don’t choose more than three. Then, after fully sinking the shoes in the bucket for a minute, take them out and store them somewhere dry. Leave the pair for about 24 hours, remove the tape and voila — you’ve got your own custom pair of hydro-dipped sneakers!
