Trend Alert – Prints: Plaid vs. Skins

The battle of the prints – while both trends take us back in time, this season plaids and skins are revamped with an ode to the ’90s.  Bodysuits, blazers, blouses, 2 pieces suites and crops, you name the cut, this season you will find it available in either plaid or skin.

Walk into any H&M, Zara, Forever 21 or a Dior, Tom Ford and even a Versace and all you will see is a python print in one corner, and a thick plaid on the other. Both bold in their own ways, these 2 prints couldn’t be more on the other ends of the prints spectrum.

Plaid:

This fall/winter, leave your briefcase at home because your plaid office attire has just become a seasonal staple. While Dior suggests mixing traditional motifs with contemporary designs, Versace is discovering a new pop palette. As seen on our adolescent idols, Cher & Dion were clueless their fad for plaid would still be around.

Skins:

Hailed by Tom Ford and trickled down to the streets, FW’18 just keeps getting wilder. Think leopard print, snakeskin and zebra – skins of all species are seen this season. With a louder colour palette of reds, neons and fluo, this trend is bound to hear you roar.

So spice up your life with your wardrobe this season and dare for a bold print.

The Modern East - Fashion - Trend Alert - Plaid vs Python

This DVF jacket is LEGIT everything. With a union of both the plaid and leopard print, this jacket will take you through the end of 2018 in total style. Inspired by the late 60’s and early 70’s vibe, DVF has definitely outdone herself with this one.

2. Feeling Blue

The Modern East - Fashion - Trend Alert - Prints - Mochi

Ms Mochi has definitely gone wild with this plaid. Locally born All Things Mochi does her take on the plaid trend, and of course, has to adapt it to her bright and fun colour palette. The Cali Jacket and pants to match are and oversized pantsuit that will make heads turn this season.
