Hidden Gem Cities // Bogliasco, Italy

Just a short jaunt away from Genoa, you’ll find the quiet and lovely little town of Bogliasco, Italy. In many ways, it displays many characteristics that are typical of any given Mediterranean village. There are old churches, a prominent plaza that is situated central to the city, colorfully painted houses, and walkways that give you stellar views of the sea. Bogliasco dates back to Ancient Rome. For much of its history, it was predominantly inhabited by fisherman and those who make their living via the sea. Today, it’s a quaint and gorgeous little town that is worth a day trip if you find yourself in Genoa or Italy’s western coast.

The Where Of It

Bogliasco is actually considered to be part of the “Golfo Paradiso” on the Italian Riviera. Also included in that group are the municipalities of Recco, Pieve Lingure, Sori, and Camogli. The port city of Genoa is just 11 km away. Honestly, you couldn’t go wrong giving each a visit. Even if you don’t have much time to linger in every one of them, the scenery is worth a quick stopover. Pieve Ligure is known for its greenery and its prolific numbers of flowers and blossoms. The mimosa flower grows in such profusion there, that it even has its own festival in February. For Sori, the food and the coastline are the main draws.

When Should You Go?

No matter what time of year you visit, Bogliasco never really gets “busy”. It’s not a place that many tourists have on their radar. Weather here is very temperate, and even the warm summer months aren’t oppressively hot. Temperatures in June typically fall around 23 degrees C. There is a rainy season that hits during October, so you might want to avoid travel during that month. There are some quaint shops in the area that you may enjoy exploring on a walkthrough. There’s also the main piazza to explore. Our suggestion would to be plan your getaway during the summer months to take advantage of that beautiful sea.

What To Eat

If you find yourself in a place with a view like Bogliasco boasts, you will likely be wanting to dine somewhere al fresco. Il Bisrotto is an excellent choice for eats that come with views to die for. It is known for its tempting tapas, fresh seafood, and excellent Mediterranean fare. For more positively killer views and food, there’s Just Peruzzi. Enjoy the sun setting over the water from this eatery’s terrace seating. Diners here rave about the fresh and authentic pizza, and the fabulous desserts. There’s also ultra fresh seafood on offer. Finally, for something extra special, be sure to snag a reservation at Il Melograno. The plates of food here really look like works of absolute art. They’re dazzling displays of colors and masterclasses on how to blend different preparation styles to compose a harmonious dish.

Where to Stay

Bogliasco is so quaint, that it really only has two main hotels. There’s Agriturismo Le Pale and Hotel Villa Flora. Out of the two, we’d have to recommend the former. The pool and views alone make it worth a stay. If you’re willing to go a bit further out, options become more plentiful.
