Overcooked is one of our favorite cooperative cooking games, and if that doesn’t sound too exciting, you must never have played it! You both play as chefs, and you’re tasked with preparing ingredients, cooking meals according to on-screen recipes, and delivering them to your alien customers who will destroy the land if you don’t keep them well fed! Overcooked is fast and frantic and players will find themselves chopping ingredients, cooking, and putting out the occasional fires. Play it with your significant other and your relationship will surely be tested as you scream and yell at each other to complete levels.
With more than 25,000 questions and moderated by a hip A.I. announcer who likes to dance and make little quips about your respective ages, It’s Quiz Time is a great time-killer and a (relatively) painless way to show off just how much you know about a wide-ranging set of topics. Up to 8 players can compete using their phones, and it’s an easy game for anybody to get into even if they’re not gamers.
Part game and part communication stress-test, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes uses Playstation VR (optional) to place one player in a room with a ticking bomb full of wires to diffuse, switches to flick, and settings to change while the other player sees the bomb manual on the television screen. Both players must communicate clearly (and quickly!) in order to figure out how to defuse a series of increasingly complicated bombs.
Since it was released in 2015, Rocket League has grown in popularity and is now a legitimate Esports title played for large stakes at international tournaments. For those who don’t take it quite so seriously, it’s a fun, whacky title that’s partly a stunt racer, partly a soccer game, and a great chance to just goof around in futuristic arenas with over-sized footballs and turbo-charged cars.
If you like platform games and want to play them together, Little Big Planet has always been a standout series from Sony, and the latest iteration of this platform exclusive game continues the tradition. It’s a lot of fun to play, although it can get frustrating when one player speeds ahead and leaves the other one behind. Don’t be the slowpoke!
