Ultimate Destinations for Music Lovers

Whether walking past a busker in the street or going to a concert at the biggest arenas, music provides a common language, something we all understand. For some of us, music is even more special, something that you will travel to far flung corners of the globe to experience in its truest forms. Great live music can be found on any trip – sometimes in the most surprising places – and you definitely don’t need to travel anywhere special to catch some. If you’re looking for a next level live music, experiences, however, these are some cities which you must visit:

Austin, Texas

Often described as the “world capital of live music”, Austin, Texas has a over two hundred venues which host live music every night! With styles ranging from roots, country, and folk to reggae and rap, you will be spoiled for musical choice all year in the city. If visiting for music specifically, however, you should visit in March when the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival is hosted in the city, the largest music festival of its kind in the world! Here you will find an emphasis on untapped, emerging talent with perhaps just a few bigger stars performing. If you love finding new sounds or artists, or simply just enjoy spending your time with others who live for music, Austin is the place to be.

London, United Kingdom

London is perhaps not the most obvious choice for music lovers, but one word comes to mind; variety. If you don’t really know what music you want to chase on your trip or simply want a choice of new experiences or some reliable entertainment, then London is the place to be. From its decadent west-end theatres playing some of the world’s highest-grossing musicals, world-renowned orchestras, ballet and opera companies, as well as seemingly unlimited venues filled with almost any type of music you can imagine, London really is bursting at the seams with talent. This is topped off by several huge venues which sees countless global stars perform all-year. All-in, London has something for every music lover and should be on your list of musical destinations.

Berlin, Germany

The Berlin music scene really is one of juxtapositions. In the same city that you will find one of the world’s finest orchestras, the Berlin Philharmonic, alongside three of the world’s greatest opera houses, you will also find some of world’s most infamous techno clubs such as Berghain or some more ‘underground’ experiences. The city’s vibrant and varied music scene may stem from the cultural upheaval of reunification in the 90’s, but it continues to develop today to incorporate R&B and rap into the mix of music which you can easily find on any given night.

New Orleans, USA

New Orleans has long held a special place in the hearts of music lovers across the world and, as the founding place of traditional jazz and an important city in the development of rock n roll, R&B, and funk music, the city certainly lives up to the hype. With artists such as Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, The Soul Finders, Frank Ocean, DJ Khaled, and Lil Wayne having called this city home, there definitely isn’t one single style which defines this city’s musical heritage but, instead, it’s the vast amount of talent which still resides here that make it an unmissable musical destination. Today, the city hosts enough live music venues and circulates enough talent that you could find something worth listening to all night, every night, forever more.

Vienna, Austria

If Austin is the world’s capital of live music generally, the classical crown definitely goes to Vienna. Once the home to countless classical legends such as Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Mahler, etc., it’s no surprise that the city still lays claim to some of the finest music venues and classical performers in the world. Of particular note is the stunning, gold-lined Wiener Musikverin where the Vienna Philharmonic reside and where, if you’re lucky enough to get tickets in the annual ballot system, you can see them perform their annual New Year’s Day concert. If classical music is your thing, Vienna is your city!
