It seems that summer is almost gone, and we barely got to enjoy any of it! Maybe I should’ve called this article ‘Movies for people who miss summer’? However, if like me, you’re still wanting to experience the hype and excitement of summer, here are some of my favourite movies to get there:
The ultimate nostalgic trip back to your childhood, the Lizzie McGuire Movie shows the summer school trip to Rome that we all dreamed of. From back in the Disney Channel days that we miss (they were definitely better!), Lizzie leaves her trip as a huge Italian celebrity and leaves the terrible Paolo looking very silly. If you don’t sing along ‘this is what dreams are made of’ at the end, then I’ll be disappointed.
Who doesn’t love ABBA? And if you don’t already, then you especially need to watch this modern classic. Set in the Greek summer, this movie has not only one of the best soundtracks you’ll hear but, even better, a dream-team cast including Meryl Steep, former 007 Pierce Brosnan, and the legendary Colin Firth (King’s Speech anyone?!
If animation and nostalgia are more your thing, Lilo and Stich is the place to be. Not only that, another amazing soundtrack will have you singing along the entire time! Although it’s not exactly a summer movie, who doesn’t get into the summer mood when they see Hawaii; you’re sure to be jealous of all the surfing and beach fun in a time before social distancing.
Last, but not least, is a true classic. And another with an amazing soundtrack (no points for guessing that I love a musical!). Perhaps the 80’s romcom, with Oscars and Grammys to prove it, you’re sure to singing along the entire time you’re getting into the summer mood!
