Children’s Book Series that will Unlock your Memories

It’s time to reminisce on the moments we used to cuddle up in bed with our little night-lights on when we were little and grab our favorite book and read, read, and read, until we fell fast asleep only to have our parents wake us up for school in the morning. The feeling of delving into a new book and entering a fictional realm in which our imaginations were able to roam freely, connecting with different characters and story-worlds was something we will never forget. Today, we are here to remind you of some nostalgic children’s book series that will unlock those memories and have you wishing you were a little kid again! Keep reading to find out what they are.

Junie B. Jones

We loved this book series as a kid – mostly because we related a lot to Junie B. and the stories about her life. From the Stupid Smelly School Bus to the Yucky Blucky Fruit Cake, not only were these stories absolutely hilarious but because they were being told from the point of view of a character the same age we were when we would read those books. Fun fact – but, actually, really sad fact: In 2014, Barbara Park’s Junie B. Jones series was challenged and threatened to be banned because of its poor grammar, punctuation and often disrespectful attitude. We think that’s a little silly!

Animorphs

Okay, let’s be honest – we were drawn to these books because of the crazy – yet, hilarious, artwork on the covers! Animorphs is a science fantasy series of children’s books written by Katherine Applegate and her husband Michael Grant, writing together under the name K. A. Applegate, and published by Scholastic. It is told in first person, with all six main characters taking turns narrating the books through their own perspectives! Which one was your favorite?

Goosebumps

I don’t think we read these with just our night-lights on! In 2015, they even created a Goosebumps movie because of how well author R.L Stein’s books did – featuring a character who played himself! The plot follows RL Stine who is shocked when demons from his books come to life and spread havoc in Delaware. He, along with his daughter and her friend, tries to get them back in the books. Due to the success of the film and the rapid sale in books following it, In 2016, Many parents wanted the books to be banned in order to protect their kids from the element of fear; however, some teachers felt that Goosebumps helped students manage the feeling of being afraid.

The New Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley

Ah, the Olsen twins! If you grew up watching Full House, you definitely wanted to grab these books to see how Michelle – or, rather, Mary-Kate & Ashley’s lives turned into mysterious adventures. Did you know The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley was also turned into a series of musical mystery videos starring twin actresses Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Then, sets of books were written as a companion piece to the show, showing the twins on the cover!
