Gadgets to Cure Your 90s Nostalgia

The past twenty years have given us gadgets that we couldn’t have even dreamt up as kids; just think watching movies anywhere on your phone. But with all the noise of constant online advertising or just the pearls of growing up, it’s easy to feel nostalgic for a time when our gadgets were, like us, a lot more innocent. Here is a rundown of my favourite gadgets – which you can still buy – to cure your nineties nostalgia:

Sony PlayStation One/ Classic

It’s hard to remember the days of gaming when things weren’t hyper-realistic and connected, or when you couldn’t download games instantly or play everything on your phone! When first released in 1995, this PlayStation was coolest “toy” you could get your hands on and since cemented itself into gaming legend. Of course, Sony knows this and, in 2018, rereleased the console as the PlayStation Classic with twenty of your favourite PS1 games already installed.

 Tamagotchi

These little keychain eggs were the biggest fad of the 90s, letting us grow and look after our own pocket pets. This was the certified way for us to prove to our parents that we were ready for the real thing! First released in 1996, this ridiculously cute toy is still available to buy new today and are just as fun as you remember.

 Sony Walkman

In the world of Spotify and Apple music, it’s easy to forget how revolutionary these little tape players (70s/ 80s) and CD players (90s) were. You could take your music anywhere! However, in the 2020s there’s more than just 90s nostalgia that might make you choose one of these otherwise dated music players: AUX input nostalgia! If you want to go full 90s, though, don’t forget to get a Spice Girls album! Although you can still buy up-to-date Walkmans (and they’re amazing for audiophiles!), if you want to relive the 90s, you’ll have to pick up the older models second hand.
