Halloween Movies: The Addams Family

Halloween is creeping up on us. That means it’s time for some frightfully good movies! What better way to celebrate this spooky time of year than with our favorite macabre family? The Addams Family first made their debut way back in 1938. They first appeared in The New Yorker magazine as single panel cartoons, and were created by Charles Addams. Strange as they may seem, the Addams were a tight knit family who were total #goals, in spite of their seeming dysfunctions to outsiders. In 1964, the Addams came to life as a live-action TV series. Animated series, and several movies would follow over the years. The Addams Family hit the silver screen in 1991, and would be promptly followed by Addams Family Values in 1993. If you haven’t seen these two movies, what have you been doing with your life?! Here’s our case on why you should totally hang with the Addams clan this Halloween season.

Morticia and Gomez Might Just Be the Best Couple Ever

Say what you will about other pop-culture fictional couples, but Morticia and Gomez are timeless. Gomez is constantly complimenting his wife, calling her “beautiful” in just about every romance language there is. Have you seen the way he looks at her? C’mon folks! Better yet, they’ve been through some stuff together. In spite of having a family, and being together for a long time, the spark has never gone out here. In fact, their love seems like a raging inferno. Their relationship is wild, passionate, fiery, and overflowing with romance. The chemistry between Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia is off the charts in these movies, and we eat it up. Get yourself a guy who looks at you like Gomez looks at Morticia.

Christina Ricci’s Wednesday

In a movie where the butler looks like Frankenstein’s monster, there’s a walking pile of hair, a lone hand that moves on its own, and a bevy of other strange and marvelous characters and situations, Ricci still manages to stand out. Wednesday Addams is kind of a spirit animal. Ricci was just 10 years old when she first took on the role. She brought a deadpan delivery to the gothy youngster that was both unsettling and endearing. Not to mention, this girl delivers some seriously sick burns. Nobody quite serves up sass and shade like Wednesday.

They’re Like the Family You Never Had- But Likely Secretly Wanted

Even though the Addams are far from your typical family, they are definitely devoted to one another. No matter what sort of kooky situations they might find themselves in, family comes first. Sure Wednesday and Pugsley might try to regularly torture each other. What siblings don’t have some rivalry going on from time to time? Fester and Gomez might perform dangerous dances with whirling knives. But, no matter what comes their way, they have one another’s best interests at heart. Creepy and kooky goes with the territory. But, so does a lot of love.
