It had to happen, after the enormous success of Pokémon Go and the announcement of the soon to be release Minecraft World (more on that in a future article), we’re finally getting a Harry Potter Augmented Reality game! You may not have asked for it, but you know you wanted it! Watch the launch trailer right here…
The official blurb reads as follows:
“A calamity has befallen the Wizarding world, causing artefacts (don’t blame us, that’s how they spell it!), creatures, people, and even memories to mysteriously appear in the Muggle world. Witches and wizards from across the globe must come together to solve the mystery of The Calamity, overcome the confounding chaotic magic that surrounds these “Foundables,” and return them to their rightful place, keeping them safe from Muggle eyes”
As you play the game on your phone or mobile device, the camera will reveal ‘traces of magic’ in the Muggle world (real world, yes – get with the program already!) – and these traces will help you locate ‘Foundables’. So you’ll be wandering around real world locations like your local parks, malls, banks, and monuments looking like those children hunting Pokemon did a couple of years ago, but instead of hunting Pokemon, you’ll be trying to find magical items and creatures so you can help return them to the Wizarding world for all kinds of in-game rewards.
Yes, you will undeniably look silly doing it, and yes, you’ll undoubtedly feel idiotic explaining what it is you’re doing, but no, we have no doubt you’ll be doing it anyway. Besides, anybody who thinks you’re silly for doing this will probably join in on the fun next week, so it’s okay.
It’s okay, we said!
The game will also feature fortresses where you can engage in Wizarding Challenges where you’ll join with other real-time players to battle dangerous foes. It’s Harry Potter, in groups, with boss battles!
We can only conclude by quoting the game announcement page:
“There are plenty more secrets to be revealed and mysteries to be uncovered, so keep your wand at the ready and be prepared to unite with your fellow witches and wizards!”
