Iconic Songs From Movies

There have been some movies where a song used in it becomes forever tied to the film. Where if you heard the song on the radio, you couldn’t help but think of the movie, Back when CD’s were a thing, movie soundtracks were popular for a hot minute. If you think about it, there are probably a few of these iconic songs from movies that instantly leap to mind. In fact, if you Google a movie, in the info list a “featured song” is even listed. Which songs will forever be synonymous with the movie they were used in? Here are some we feel are at the top.

My Heart Will Go On”//Titanic

Poor Rose and Jack. They were definitely a generation’s ultimate pair of star-crossed lovers. Except instead of being in Verona, this doomed couple were stuck upon an ill-fated ship. The movie was a hit, and so was the soundtrack. The soundtrack sold 30 million copies, and contained 15 tracks. The biggest hit, and the song that would be forever tied to the film, was “My Heart Will go On”, sung by Celine Dion. The single would sell 18 million copies in its own right, and still stands as one of the singer’s biggest hits of all time. Just try to listen to the song and not think of the movie.

I Will Always Love You”// The Bodyguard

Even if the movie was a bit before your time, you likely know this song. The talented Whitney Houston covered this song for the movie, and it went on to enjoy massive success. “I Will Always Love You” spent 14 weeks atop Billboard’s Hot 100 charts. But, before Whitney put her spin on it, the song was written and performed by the legendary country music artist Dolly Parton. This one is definitely one of the most iconic songs from movies.

Ghostbusters”//Ghostbusters

This little ditty was written for the film by Ray Parker Jr. It’s not a long walk to figure out why the song is forever intertwined with the movie. They do share a name, for starters. Even though this one dates back all the way to 1984, there’s a pretty good chance you’re familiar with it. The song was such a hit, that it was even nominated for Best Original Song by the Academy Awards. By the way, if you’ve never seen the original Ghostbusters movie, do it. It’s a piece of retro gold. The video for this iconic songs candidate? All we can say is “wow”.

Lose Yourself”// 8 Mile

In the early 2000’s, you literally could not escape this song. Rapper Eminem released the song for the soundtrack for the film 8 Mile. The movie was a massive success, as was the song. It went on to become an anthem of the times of sorts, that was able to cross cultural, ethnic, and musical lines. While it certainly qualifies as one of those iconic songs from movies, it also has no problem standing alone.

When heard today, people might associate it more with a period of their life, than with the film itself.
