Fave Fashion Documentaries

For all of our fashion lovers, do you not agree there is nothing more dreamy and fairy-tale like than a good old fashion documentary? I, personally, couldn’t imagine anything I enjoy more than going into the minds and living a day in the life of my favorite, most admired, designers when it comes to TV time.

Over time there have been countless noteworthy fashion documentaries that every fashionista must-see, so to make things a little easier, I have put together a list of my top 3 films for you to rate next time you are in the mood for a fashion flick.

7 Days Out (2018)

An insider’s eye to the iconic house of Chanel, a habitat that has always been a place of wonder and with the recent passing of Karl Lagerfeld, the Netflix documentary feels even more emotional. 7 Days Out tells the story and gives us behind the scenes access to the week leading up to the Maison’s SS18 couture collection where we get to see Karl at work through fittings, castings and then backstage at the Grand Palais on show day. A much watch for all. Netflix and chic.

Dior And I (2014)

For our fashion girls who see couture as an absolutely dream, Dior and I is a peek into this whimsical world, telling the story of Raf Simon’s inauguration at the house of Dior following his appointment in 2012. Confronted with the challenge of creating his first collection in just eight weeks after being titled artistic director of the Maison, this documentary follows Raf on an extremely high-stressed, high-pressured journey, with the help of heroic seamstresses who helped make his beautiful debut collection come to life.

The September Issue (2009)

For all our PR girls, editors and media junkies out there, the September issue is obviously a must-see for you. Following the making of American Vogue’s 2007 September issue, which is customarily the most important issue of the year, also known as the “fashion issue”. At the time, the documentary gave the public extraordinary access to the inner workings of Vogue; something that has never happened in the post! While it’s definitely interesting watching Anna Wintour at work, it’s Grace Codington, the magazine’s former creative director, who totally steals the show, enchanting us with her ability to tell such captivating visual stories through styling, photography and set design.
