Movies Where Ryan Reynolds Was Legit Funny

Ryan Reynolds is a lot of fun to watch. Recently, he’s found a rather good home for his snarky wit and dripping sarcasm in the character of Deadpool. But before landing that role, Reynolds started out his acting career on a Canadian teen soap opera called Hillside. It’s kind of hard to picture the funny man trying to take on a role that required any level of seriousness. Reynolds has starred in plenty of films and shows between those two jobs. Not all of them are great. But some are seriously laugh-out-loud kind of funny. If you’re in need of a good laugh, here are the top movies starring the Canadian charmer that you’ll want to watch.

Waiting…

Anyone who has ever worked at a restaurant will definitely appreciate this comedy. In this film, Ryan Reynolds plays Monty, who has been working at the restaurant, where the movie is mostly set, for a long time. Monty is smooth-talking, egotistical, wise-cracking, and fancies himself a ladies’ man. Of course, the role is a perfect fit for Reynolds, who seems to particularly excel at bringing those sorts of characters to life. For all the over the top comedy, the characters are all written extremely well. If you’ve ever been in the restaurant industry, or even just worked in some form of customer service, you will definitely recognize some of the personalities portrayed from past jobs of your own.

Just Friends

In this hilarious Reynolds film, he plays the character of Chris Brander. Chris has been best friends with the beautiful and vivacious Jaime, but he longs for something more. However, Chris is well and firmly in the “friend zone” as far as Jaime is concerned. Broken-hearted and humiliated, Chris moves to LA and has a total transformation. He’s handsome, successful, and now has no problem with the ladies. But as chance would have it, he ends up encountering the former girl of his dreams. Reynolds brings plenty of heart and comedy to the part, along with that flippant wit. This one is perfect for a casual movie night where you just want some ha-has.

The Proposal

We’re just going to keep this one short, sweet, and to the point. Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, ’nuff said. He’s her workplace “yes man” and she’s his uptight and controlling boss. Except, they have to fake a proposal so that she can continue to work in the US. With these two comedy powerhouses at the helm, what’s not to enjoy? Oh yeah, there’s also the added bonus of the ever-delightful Betty White.

Deadpool 1&2

So, this was pretty much the role that Ryan Reynolds was born to play. It plays to all his strengths and his sarcastic comedic chops completely. While the first movie received a lot of pre-opening buzz for being a movie based on a comic book character that was rated “R”, people were not disappointed with the finished product. Yeah, Deadpool may be “The Merc with a Mouth” and drop plenty of  “f”bombs, but we can’t picture anyone else behind the red and black suit. These movies will definitely leave you in stitches.
