Trend Alert | TieDye

We welcomed 2019 and with it, we opened our closets to a new set of trends and one of them is TieDye.

TieDye is a modern term invented in the 60’s in the West; originally it was known as Shibori, a form of TieDye from Japan and Indonesia that has been present since the 8th century.

Shibori uses different tonalities of colors that are soft and more subdued; while the 1960’s TieDye has more modern psychedelic patterns with a strong color palette.

This year it has been officially elevated to high-fashion status when in September: Prabal Gurung, john Elliot and R13 showcased TieDye pieces on the New York Fashion week runway.

They used appealing techniques featuring bright lime greens, deep blues and soft lavender to visually enhance a series of very wearable basics like sporty high socks, lightweight trenches, blazers, rocker tees and pants and denim. The counterculture’s uniform has a new makeover with a more contemporary feel with unblended shades looking more like a print than a fusion of color. The result is a look that’s fresh, bohemian, tailored, nostalgic and modern.

TieDye is just getting started and yet it’s already trickled into most of the major fashion retailers all you must is do is replace your monochromatic palette of pretty pastels come spring with these little numbers we have found for you.
