Fashion Faux Pas Become Fashion Trends

If the past few years of fashion have taught us anything, it’s that even the most rigid of fashion ‘rules’ can be thrown out faster than you can say ‘Birkenstocks’! From Balenciaga’s trailblazing of ‘ugly’ fashion to the resurgence of 80s and 90s retro favourites like Fila, Champion, and Puma, there are definitely a lot more options to spice up your look than there was ten years ago. So, switch on your iPhone torch and get ready to raid that dusty wardrobe, because you’re about to go hunting for special items that your parents consigned to history as fashion faux pas’!

Double Denim

‘Double trouble’, the ‘Texan tuxedo’, whatever you want to call it, double denim has long been a fashion enigma. Although once a potent marker that the wearer was completely devoid of any taste, think that photo of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake (shrieks!), double denim has made a comeback in recent years with Gigi Hadid and Rihanna both opting for the look! However, don’t get too brave! Same shade double denim is definitely still a faux pas you don’t want to commit!

The Beltpack

Once part of the official uniform for American tourists, the humble and handy ‘fanny pack’ has seen a resurgence in the last decade. Perhaps in part because of festival culture, maybe just because ‘ugly’ is back in, but the waist bag has been reclaimed by the likes of Kendall Jenner, Rihanna, and Beyonce! Although you could opt for the crazy expensive options of Balenciaga or Gucci’s belt packs, humble favourites will always win out and I’d choose Patagonia or Champion any day!

Adventure-Wear

The final former-faux pas on the list is one that the travellers among you will be grateful for. Whether you need a heavy down jacket for travelling to chillier climates or just need a fleece for those windy Dubai evenings, adventure staples like The North Face, Columbia, and Patagonia are well and truly in style. Although, traditionally, the preserve of fashion-absent dads the world over, this decade’s streetwear explosion and collabs with the likes of Supreme have seen these brands quickly reassert themselves on the fashion map!
