Candy Bar Inspired Desserts

Portable and delicious, the candy bar has been a sweet tooth staple for many years now. Think back to when you were younger, and you can likely remember trying to get your parents to buy you one nearly every trip you took to the grocery. The very first chocolate bar dates back to 1847. It was then that Joseph Fry and his son pressed a paste containing sugar and cocoa powder into a bar shape. Two years later, John Cadbury would enter the chocolate bar making arena. Things would quickly snowball from there, and by the time World War I was over, there would be over 40,00 different types of candy bars on the market. Today, the most popular candy bar sold globally is the Snickers bar. While candy bars are undoubtedly delicious all on their own, we’ve assembled a list of scrumptious desserts that use candy bars as inspiration. G’wan and get your bake on.

Snickers Poke Cake

Candy Bar Inspired Desserts - The Modern East

The beautiful folks over at Plain Chicken have given the world this recipe, and we thank them for it. Poke cakes are great because they are super simple, and they always turn out moist and delicious. A boxed chocolate cake mix starts things off. Once it’s baked, you remove the cake from the oven and poke holes in it with the back of a wooden spoon while the cake is still warm. The recipe suggests using a fork or a straw, but wooden spoons really do work best. The holes are larger, and it really allows the caramel and sweetened condensed milk to seep into the cake. While this recipe also calls for making your own whipped cream, you can totally get a tub of the ready-made stuff and use that if you want to save a little time.
