With Breast Cancer Awareness Month quickly approaching, we at The Modern East have prepared some articles revolving the topic of breast cancer. For today’s feature, we have compiled a list of charities in the UAE that you can donate to during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Money raised by breast cancer charities has increased screening and funded important research over the years and has consequently saved many lives. We encourage you to take part in the donations for Breast Cancer and remember that a little goes a long way!

Pink Caravan is a Pan UAE breast cancer initiative that falls under Friends of Cancer Patients’ umbrella “Kashf” for early detection of cancer. Launched in 2011 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Founder and Patron of the Friends of Cancer Patients Society (FoCP), International Ambassador of the World Cancer Declaration for Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC, Pink Caravan has garnered widespread recognition locally, regionally, and internationally, and therefore, has appointed ambassadors from different walks of life to promote and advocate its mission.

Pink Caravan aims to Spread awareness about the importance of self-breast examination amongst the UAE community, dispel myths associated with breast cancer in relation to the UAE community, provide access to clinical breast examinations, mammography and further breast cancer screening investigation, for women and men within the UAE community, lobby for the creation of the UAE’s National Cancer Registry, and Advocate amongst public and private medical bodies to improve the standards of breast cancer screening and treatment within the UAE.

Best Friends in Partnership with Al Jalila Foundation

Brest Friends is the first breast cancer support group in the UAE established in 2005 by Dr Houriya Kazim, the UAE’s first female surgeon, where patients and survivors meet monthly to learn, share experiences and offer moral and emotional support to each other which has shown to be instrumental in a woman’s healing process. Through partnership with Al Jalila Foundation in 2015, Brest Friends is further empowered to fulfil its goals and raise funds for breast cancer research and treatment in the UAE.

Every year in October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, hundreds of organizations and members of the community join hands with Al Jalila Foundation and Brest Friends to organize events across the UAE to raise funds for our breast cancer program. You can donate to them now through their website!
