7 Signs You’re A True ’90s Child

Ah the ’90s, it has to be my favourite era – the fashion, the music, the TV. Call it nostalgia, but I still think we did it way better then. If you’re a true ’90s child, you will be very familiar with the following trends.

1. Baggy jeans

You simply weren’t doing it right if you didn’t own a pair of wildly exaggerated baggy jeans. Oh, and paired with a crop top of course, probably tie-dyed.

2. Rollerblading

They were actually invented in the 1980s, but the rollerblade mania really kicked off in the ’90s, and I am going to put 1995 out there as a key year. Everybody was doing it! Which doesn’t necessarily mean you should too, but when it comes to rollerblading, yeah, you should.

3. Fruit Roll-Ups

Our favourite unhealthy, health branded snack. These popped up in pretty much every ’90s child’s lunch box, that delicious pectin-based treat we all unravelled with delight.

4. Platform Shoes

I am going to thank the Spice Girls for this one, making this an ultra-hype in seriously unbalanced platform shoes, to add a few inches to your outfit.

5. Alanis Morrissette

I still remember the album in cassette form – Jagged Little Pill was released on June 13th 1995 and basically sets the musical backdrop for much of our teenage angst that year.

6. Friends

If you were alive in the ’90s you will be familiar. If for some reason you’re unfamiliar with the series, it’s still airing on Netflix Middle East.

7. The Fresh Prince of Bel Air

We watched Will Smith play, well, himself (more or less) on NBC from September 10, 1990 to May 20, 1996.
