The streaming giant has been promising to release more content in local languages, and you better believe it has been delivering. While people worldwide have watched Spanish-language shows like Narcos or Casa de Papel, we, in the Middle East, had been longing for something in our own native tongue. Arabic Comedy!
Well, the wait is final over! Netflix has delivered on its promise by releasing some of its first ever original Arabic content in the form of stand-up comedy! As part of a series called COMEDIANS of the World, Netflix has graced our screens with 4 absolutely hilarious comedy shows from comedians across our regions.
Trust me when I tell you, you are in for some from-the-heart laughs. All 4 Arabic comedy shows are incredibly well executed, painfully relatable and the comedians are all talented beyond belief. I was worried as an Egyptian watching them that I might not understand some of the Khaleeji or Saudi slang, but this was no issue at all!
The four comedians are Ibraheem AlKhairallah from Saudi, Rawsan Hallak from Jordan, Adi Khalefa from Palestine and Moayad Alnefaie from Saudi Arabia. Each of them is incredibly talented and trust me when I tell you I barely stopped laughing long enough to write this piece.
Special shout-out goes to #Girlboss Rawsan Hallak for being the only woman on the list and for absolutely killing it on stage. She was so comfortable, funny, and cheerful it just had to put a smile on my face.
The other regions of the Comedians of the world series are US, UK, Canada (EN/FR), France, Australia and NZ, Mexico, Germany, Brazil, South Africa and the Netherlands – a truly international and diverse show!
The intent behind showcasing all these talents from around the world is super admirable on Netflix’s part. With so much talent and with the platform’s international reach, a show like this can truly appeal to all corners of the globe!
We can’t wait to see more Arabic content from the giant, and are especially looking forward to the Sci-Fi Series, Jinn coming out in 2019! Stay tuned!
