DIY Fashion: Line Art Shirt

Cleaning out your closet and come across some old work shirts or white tee’s that are no longer speaking to you? Get creative and give them some love with our line art DIY. This is a great way to repurpose staple items in your wardrobe that are no longer serving you meaning.

What you’ll need:

  • A white shirt or t-shirt
  • Black Marker
  • Black Fabric Market (make sure you go with one of high quality to avoid coming off in the wash)
  • 2 or 3 sheets of A4 white paper
  • Bulldog clips
  • Hard surface, such as a large book or thick cardboard

Step 1:

Create your template

You can either print out a line drawing out you have found online, or create your own. Using an A4 piece of white paper and your black marker, create a continuous line drawing you are happy with (this may take a few tries.

Step 2:

Place your template onto your t-shirt

Place your template onto the hard surface (thick cardboard or large book) and then slip the template under the front of your t-shirt getting it into position. Using the bulldog clips, clip to hold the t-shirt in place (you want the t-shirt to be firmly in place, but not stretched).

Step 3:

Trace your template onto your t-shirt

Once in place, begin to over the template on the t-shirt with your black fabric marker. A little tip – using small, slow strokes works best, going over later for thicker lines if needed. Once you’ve traced the template onto your t-shirt, you may want to wait a little while to make sure it’s dry.

Step 4:

Try on your DIY Line Art t-shirt

Et voila, once dry, try on your DIY Line Art t-shirt and give yourself a little spin in the mirror!
