7 Reasons Why We Love SLAB!

SLAB what now? If your feed hasn’t already been blowin’ up with drool-worthy photos of SLAB’s food – you’re following the wrong people!

@noreenwasti and @melangedubai’s photos made me wanna try SLAB at La Mer. And it did not disappoint! So let’s get started.

1. CASUAL, JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT

We arrived around noon on a Saturday before people could start trickling in. But it wasn’t long before the restaurant was buzzing with happy smiling faces. The ambiance was casual, pro-insta and perfect for the laidback location at La Mer.

2. ALL ABOUT VARIETY

The waitress was quick to welcome us in and get us seated. She then explained the menu and their sharing concept that’s perfect for mixing and matching dishes to share – something I’m always happy to do because it means more variety.

We were a little group of 3 very big eaters and went with a total of 7 dishes + dessert which drummed up a bill of AED 430. Yes, we were stuffed. And yes, it was worth it!

3. OMFG THE FOOD

We started off with the light and refreshing Salmon Nikkei – raw marinated Salmon with Ponzu, Togarashi and Chives. It was the adult version of a cold ice lolly on a hot summer day. And things just kept getting better.

4. EMBRACE THE FAT

Let me tell you right now: if you really want to enjoy SLAB, leave your Kale smoothie at home. Sure, they have healthy and wholesome options which are all delicious – like the Salmon Nikkei and Charred Broccoli (Reason #5). But their comfort food will cuddle your little love handles like a perfectly warm Snuggie. Let me explain:

Their Crispy Potato Tostones with Porcini Aioli and Beef Chorizo is delicious AF – and I mean it! We almost fought over the last ones.

The Smoked Beef Jam with Truffle Mustard and Pickles on Grilled Sourdough punched me in the face with bold sweet and spicy flavours – it’s a new fav.

And the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) with Honey, Soy-Garlic and Sriracha Ranch followed suit with equally punchy sweet and spicy power + an added bonus of crunch.

5. THEY MAKE BROCCOLI TASTE AMAZING

Yes, I know I said embrace the fat. But I also told you that they do have healthier options. And their Charred Broccoli with Greek Yoghurt, Grapes, and Cashews is one of them. It was the perfect mix of textures, refreshing, feel-good yoghurt and low-guilt greens – with a light touch of sweetness from the grapes.

6. ALL THE RIGHT CLASSICS.

We also tried the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with Honey Chili Butter and Kale Slaw on a Brioche Bun and the King Prawns with Chipotle Butter. They were hearty and generous in flavour, and would make great options for a solo meal.

7. DESSERT DESSERT DESSERT

Not gonna lie, my dessert choice was 100% influenced by the gram. I had been staring at pictures of the Espresso Soaked Milk Cake for days and wasn’t gonna leave without trying it. So we did! It was creamy, not too sweet and not too wet (like traditional milk cakes). It was SLAB’s ode to Tiramisu and the perfect ending to our utterly satisfying meal.
