New Year’s Resolution: Cooking Edition

With a year full of hardship coming to an end, it is no surprise that people are coming up with their lists of New Year’s resolutions. Whether it be travel based in light of the new vaccines and governments being more comfortable with travel, or starting a new skincare routine, fashion for self-expression, dieting, and more – the list goes on and on. For today’s New Year feature, we, at The Modern East, have compiled a list of achievable New Year’s resolutions all about cooking. The key is not to achieve the most things, but not to put pressure on yourself so that your resolutions become easy-peasy! Check out our list below.

Take Some Classes

Cookbooks and TV shows can take you far, but for some skills—think folding a samosa or knowing what consistency a piecrust should be (and when to stop the food processor and start using your hands)—a demonstration where you participate is the only way to really get it.

Learn Some New Skills

If you’re bored with the food you cook, or if you tend to stick to unhealthy but easy dinners, a few simple skills could really open up your food world. Learning how to make sauces, cook different meats, and simple skills, like batter, will open up so many possibilities for your mealtimes.

Try Meat-Free Mondays

Cutting out meat every once in a while is an easy way to make your weekly meals a little healthier – without having to completely change the way you eat. Meat-free Mondays is an easy initiative to get behind.

Invest in Cookbooks

Rediscover a book you’ve had for years or get to know the one that you received this holiday, by first spending some time reading it outside the kitchen. Bookmark every recipe you’re interested in, even if it calls for summer peaches and it’s the middle of January.
