Who doesn’t love a good baby shower? There’s so much happiness and excitement in the air. The mom-to-be is glowing. You get to oooh and ahhh over all the little outfits. It’s just generally all around good vibes happening when you attend one. A lot of soon to be moms create gift registries for their showers. But knowing what to get as a gift if there is no registry, or all the good gifts are taken, can be tough. Here’s some gift ideas that are sure to be appreciated if you ever find yourself in such a quandary.
While we can concede that diapers might not seem like the most exciting gift out there, any mom-to-be is going to be thrilled to receive them. For starters, it’s insane how many diapers a baby will go through a day. It doesn’t logically make sense, their little bodies are so tiny. And yet, diaper changes are going to be beyond frequent. If you can, even get a package of newborn diapers, and one in the next size up. She can tuck the bigger size away and it will be a comfort to know it is there. Plus, diapers are expensive, and it’s a cost that really adds up. Bonus points if you add some baby wipes.
Wanna be a big hit at a baby shower? Bring baby clothes that don’t have buttons or snaps. The clothes with all the buttons may be cute, but they will soon become the bane of any new mom’s existence. The last thing you want to deal with, when your baby is trying to fling itself off the changing table, is to deal with a bunch of buttons and snaps. You don’t know the meaning of the word “hard” until you’re going on 3 hours of broken sleep in the last 48 hours and are trying to get all the buttons to line up. P.S. You never discover they don’t line up until you’re at the very last one.
Most people at a baby shower are going to bring infant size clothing. We’re talking things that are 0-3 months. While the newly minted mama will likely be set on clothes for right after the baby is born, babies grow fast! Plus, some babies grow out of the 0-3 month sizing much faster than the 3 month mark. By buying some outfits and shoes that are a size up or two, you’ll be helping to keep her baby styling longer. And, you’ll be helping out mama’s wallet when it’s already time to buy a whole new mini wardrobe.
The absolute last thing you want to do when you’re a new mom is cook. You don’t want to think about what to make. The grocery store is now a challenge. So much of your focus and attention is on the baby, and often you are so utterly exhausted that you don’t even know your own name. Let alone able to remember all the stuff you need at the grocers. So, if you can make her life easier, and feed her, you will be the absolute MVP of the baby shower.
New mama’s are notorious for forgetting to take care of themselves. Get her a gift certificate for a mani-pedi, a massage, a hair or makeup appointment. Basically, anything that will help her de-stress, relax, and remind her that she is important too. Even better, write her a little note offering your time for babysitting service for while she is enjoying her spa treatment.
