I’m not here to tell you that you’re an apple or a pear or a carrot or any other kind of edible item that belongs in your kitchen and not as a descriptor of your body. All body shapes are different – and what’s more, everyone’s style is unique. So it just doesn’t make sense for there to be a universal standard of body shapes and dress code. What I can help you with though, is navigating the world of minor details on a clothing item and understand the tweaks you can do to an outfit that will either flatter you or weigh you down – depending on what parts of your body you want to showcase. Check out these tip on how to dress for YOU:
While you should love all of your body, we all have parts that we’re a little fonder of than others. Your assets if you will.

On the other hand, you might have a part of your body that you want to distract from, I know for me that tends to be my waistline (or lack thereof rather), so I pick things that will pull the eye away from that specific area – if you don’t have such an area then glory to you!

Know that if you wear an item of clothing or an accessory that’s huge, colorful, printed, asymmetrical or even of a lighter color compared to the rest of your outfit– it will automatically attract the eye. Focus those pieces in the areas where you want attention, or strategically to divert attention.

For example, a bold necklace will draw the eye upwards to your face and neckline, while a huge statement belt around your waist will accentuate that area.
The importance of knowing which colors look good on you can’t be emphasized enough. What I mean here are the colors that flatter your complexion, hair/eye color and most of all your undertones. A flattering color will do most of the work for you and divert attention away from the shape of the clothes to instead focus on the color interplay.
The first step for you here is to figure out your undertone, there are endless articles online to help you do this and when you pin down which warm, cool and neutral colors work best from you, you’ll be unstoppable.
Layering can be your best friend. The contrast between different layers and fabrics creates interesting shapes and often results in a look that’s more about the pieces than about the body per se. Basically, play around, see what makes you feel good and wear it.
That’s the main message here – confidence and feeling good are everything when pulling off an outfit. With a few tweaks, most items of clothing work on any body shape or even with most styles. The trick is to get something that fits right – whether you want the fit to be snug, oversized or perfect, that’s up to you.
You just need to play around and make the piece or outfit work for you with the tricks mentioned above. Let your style guide the clothes, not the other way around – and learn how to dress for you.
