5 Dessert-Making Party Ideas

Looking for some inspiration for something to do for a girl’s night in and a way to satisfy your sweet tooth? These dessert party ideas are a sure way to do both and let everyone explore their culinary side! Finish your night with an in-house movie while you sample your creations and you’ve got all the ingredients for a fabulous girl’s night.

1. Cookie Decorating Party

Whether you have everyone bring some of their favorite store-bought cookies or whip up a batch of simple sugar cookies  once everyone arrives, a cookie decorating party is a lot of fun. If making your own cookies from scratch, consider cutting them out into a few different shapes. Once the cookies are baked and cooled, set out a decorating station. A few splashes of food coloring into some bowls of royal icing will give the cookies a pretty, smooth surface to decorate on. Put some icing in plastic food storage bags and snip off the very tip to be able to pipe designs, words, or whatever you wish on your cookies. Set out sprinkles, chocolate chips, coconut flakes or whatever you might like to add to your masterpieces!

2. Cupcake Party

For this party, gather some of your closest friends and a couple boxes of cake mix! It’s up to you how many flavors of cake to make, but you can never go wrong with one of each vanilla and chocolate. After your cupcakes have baked and cooled, cut a hole around the top so that you can take a portion out and fill the middles. Set out different fillings like puddings, fruits, jams, or even candies.  Allow your guests to fill the middle of their favorite flavor cupcake and then put the top back on and frost with icing! Drizzle with caramel, chocolate sauce, or nuts as desired.

3. Pie Day

This suggestion might require everyone to do some research and baking at home prior to arriving, but your taste buds will thank you! There are a lot of different kinds of pies out there, from cream to fruit to peanut butter! Pick one that sounds appealing to you and have everyone else do the same. Host a blind taste test party with everyone’s pie and try to guess the flavors and who made what! Optional Bonus: Give the winner a small succulent plant or a whisk as a prize!

4. Waffle Party

Who doesn’t love a good waffle? These thick, delicious comfort foods bake quickly and waffle makers are relatively inexpensive to buy! Set out a toppings buffet of various sliced fruits, whipped cream, ice cream, sauces, Nutella, and/or chopped bits of candy bars and have yourself one delicious waffled themed dessert party!

5. Ice Cream Social

Is there anything more quintessential when it comes to dessert than ice cream? Perfectly cooling on those hot days, it’s always hard to resist. So, give in and have an ice cream dessert party! Have everyone bring a pint of their favorite flavors and then spruce them up with a bevy of toppings. Think outside the box of the normal sauces and sprinkles and offer things like chunks of brownie, donut, cheesecake, or pound cake to mix in or use as a bed for a scoop or two. Instead of topping with peanuts, try bits of dried mango or dates or pineapple. Sandwich a scoop between two cookies and dip one end in melted chocolate for a sinful treat.
