5 Nostalgic Drinks We Grew Up With in the UAE

We all miss that feeling of asking our parents for a couple of coins so we could go down to our local supermarkets or dukkans to get ourselves a treat. From Chocolates to candies, and chips, and, of course, that special drink to wash it all down – which one was your favorite?

Rani

This canned, pulp-filled beverage was sold in many flavors, but we all just loved orange! Did you know that The beverage was inspired by a mandarin drink that Aujan Industries (the creator of Rani’s) Chairman had tasted during a trip to Japan? Well, we’re glad it made itself back to the UAE and made out childhoods!

Barbican

We Definitely thought we were the cool kids on the block when we picked up a Barbican bottle from our local supermarkets (Dukkans). Whether your favorite was raspberry, pineapple, apple, or grape, these fizzy flavored beverages were way cooler than the typical soft drink.

Oronamin C

Did you know this drink is originally Japanese too? Well, it was definitely a huge part of our childhood growing up in the UAE. If a vending machine was loaded with Oronamin C, we wouldn’t even look twice at the other sodas.

Vimto

We often associate the original Vimto drink with Ramadan, as it is a commonly drunk beverage used to break out fasts, or even sip on at gatherings during the holy month – but, don’t you remember buying these at the supermarket in those squeezable bottles? We sure do!

Shani

This berry flavored soda beat the other brands any and every day! If you wanted the taste of Vimto but couldn’t choose between a juice or a soda, this is what you picked. Carbonated Vimto? Talk about the best of both worlds!
