What’s better than a simple recipe dessert? That’s right, nothing. This mouthwatering dessert is not only so simple to make, but we can definitely taste the UAE culture with every bite, as this treat is known to be a traditional Emirati dessert. So, if you live abroad and want to feel close to the UAE, feel free to do this in just minutes! And if you love this dessert but always had to go to Global Village or cultural events to have some, then this recipe is for you where you don’t need to go anywhere and do it freely with your PJs at home!

Let’s get started – shall we?

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp chickpea flour
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • Date syrup for serving

Method

  1. Whisk all the dry ingredients together. Add the water and mix to make a thick batter.
  2. Keep for around an hour to double in size.
  3. Heat oil and using a wet spoon, drop spoonfuls into the oil and fry till golden brown.
  4. Top with date syrup and serve.

Facts

  • Keep in mind that this is not the healthiest dessert; you need to use the oil in order to fry it – and unfortunately, that is the only way you are able to make this treat.
  • With these ingredients mentioned above, each Luqaiamat (dumpling) equals to 46 calories.
  • They need to be eaten the same day! If you eat it hours later or possibly the next day – it’ll lose it’s crunch!
  • It can be served with honey, dates, or maple syrup – but date syrup is the traditional way, and that’s the way to go!

Bon Appetit!
