Spring cleaning- Declutter your closet

Do you wake up every morning and look at your stuffed closet and say you have nothing to wear? Do you run out of hangers on a weekly basis? Do you discover pieces that you forgot you even bought? Do you buy a new dress for every event? Do you sometimes realize the pants you just bought are identical to the ones you already have at home?

If you answered yes to at least one of these questions, then you should read and get inspired by this article; and if you answered yes to all our question then you should apply our expert tips to fix your closet clutter.

Start by emptying your closet, all of it! The clothes, the shoes, the accessories, the bags; lay everything in one big pile and prepare yourself physically and mentally as you will be taking some hard decisions.

Create four piles labeled: Sell, Donate, Maybe, Customize and Toss and start sorting your clothes into these piles.

For the Toss pile, you should put in it anything that you can longer envision yourself wearing; either it’s out of style, damaged beyond repair, ripped or stained.

For the Sell pile, you can add in all the branded pieces that you want to get rid of, think The Closet UAE, or GardeRobe, you can sell that Balenziaga bag and buy the new one!

For the Donate pile, add in the pieces that you no longer want but that are still in good condition. No stains or wholes as you will want to give them away for charity.

The Maybe pile is the trickiest one, it contains that pair of pants that are a little bit too tight or that dress that you’re not sure if you will wear again. Leave those pieces in a box and keep it out of sight. If after 2 months you don’t remember those pieces, then get rid of them.

The Customize pile includes that T-shirt that has stains on its sleeves but that looks great sleeveless, or pants that are too long or that zipper that needs to be replaced. Stop procrastinating and get it done.

Now that your piles are set and ready, you can start putting them back in your closet. Invest in thin hangers to have more space and in transparent boxes to put in your scarves, belts, and accessories.

In your closet clutter, organize your pieces by category; put the pants together, then the tops, the skirts, the dresses. Once this is done refine your organization by arranging the categories by color; start by the darkest shade until you reach the lightest one.

Some extra tips would include adding some shoe fillers in your shoes to keep them in shape, putting your costume jewelry in plexiglass boxes, and of course placing scent sachets on each rack. Bye bye closet clutter!
