One of our guilty pleasures at The Modern East? Bingeing on animated movies for an entire weekend with some popcorn that we cheekily ordered from VOX on Deliveroo, without leaving the couch for 48 hours. Can anyone relate? That being said, 2019 is now here and we are super excited and full of energy, ready to get those cinema tickets in hand and leave the house to indulge on our favorite animated movies. Inspired by the plush toy phenomenon of 2001, Ugly Dolls is the (super cute) storyline of: beauty is more than meets the eye. Uglyville is a town where being weird, strange and conventionally different is celebrated. This animated movie is also filled with music, starring voices of not only Hollywood actors, but also tons of singers – the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Janelle Monáe, Blake Shelton and Pitbull.

There is no doubt that if you have kids (or know any kids!) – you’ve come across Frozen. Probably one of the biggest hits since the old Disney classics, Frozen has become a household name since its release in 2013. In this sequel Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf trek into the forest on a new adventure to uncover the truth about an ancient mystery.

Another sequel to hit the screen this 2019 – The Lego Movie 2 – The Second Part is set to launch soon this February. In this new movie we get a hint of science fiction as the citizens of Lego Land are threatened by LEGO DUPLO invaders from outer space.

Ok, so this movie is half animated and half “IRL” – but it had to make the list. The Japanese phenomenon Pokémon (known as Pocket Monsters) has become one of the biggest franchises of our time, and we couldn’t be more excited for it to hit the big screen. In the movie, a boy meets a smart talking Pikachu who is on a mission to become a detective.

The Secret Life of Pets was easily one of the cutest animated movies of 2016, and one that I personally label as my go-to. So of course we couldn’t be happier when the launch of its sequel was set to 2019. In the new movie Max gets sent to the vet – and the adventure begins.

Mortitia, Gomez, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Lurch and who could forget Thing – the Addams Family are one of TV’s greatest families of all time. We couldn’t be more excited that an animated movie of the Addams Family is set to launch this year. With a star-studded voiceover cast: Charlize Theron as Mortitia, Chloë Grace Moretz as Wednesday and Oscar Isaac as Mr Gomez Addams – this adaptation is one to watch.

Toy Story – the OG of animated movies, first launched in 1995 by Pixar where we first met the all-too-familiar Andy, Woody and Buzz Lightyear. 24 years later, Toy Story 4 is scheduled to be released in June, and we cannot wait! In this new chapter of the Toy Story saga we meet new character Forky and the gang head out on a road trip.
