In this era, it seems almost impossible to do absolutely anything without the use of the Internet. From websites to social media apps and, of course, the online encyclopedia that we all heavily rely on and have grown to love – Google. Though the first workable prototype of the internet came in the 1960s, people did not start using it until about 1991 – almost 30 years ago! Did you know that? How many times a day do you search something on google? From people Googling store locations, to celebrities, to homework answers, and, of course, fun facts – Google averages nearly 5.6 billion searches per day, meaning 228 million searches per hour and 3.8 million searches per minute!

The Internet’s weight

Yup, you read that right – but what? How does one measure the weight of the internet – a nontangible concept? Physicist Russel Seitz measured the weight of multiple billions of electrons which make up the data that we send back and forth every day and according to his measurements, if the internet were weighed it would weigh about 50 grams.

Who still uses Facebook?

Despite the rise of new social media platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and others – it seems that Facebook is still at the top of the social media food chain with a whopping 2.6 billion monthly active users as of the first quarter of 2020.
