8 Tech Hacks Every Student Needs

1. Proof reading? Easy!

Calling all students – if you need to read or proofread a long document, head over to Google Translate, paste it and listen to it instead of reading it!

2. Powerpoint Tip

If you use PowerPoint for presentations, don’t forget to save your PowerPoint presentation in .PPS instead of .PPT, your file goes into slide show mode when you open it – saves you the embarrassment of looking for the slideshow full screen mode buttons and showing your fellow students the notes you put at the bottom of the slides.

3. Youtube Videos Downloaded

Ever need to download a YouTube video? To download a YouTube video, insert “ss”, after www. and before YouTube. Super useful!

4. PDF Hacks

Editing a PDF is a nightmare if you don’t have the extension installed, here is an easy way to view, edit, or annotate PDF documents: upload your pdf to www.pdfescape.com.

5. Ain’t got Time for YT?

If you have a long video you have to watch on YouTube, go to the settings and change the speed to 2x speed. It will speed it up enough for you to save yourself a few minutes and still let you understand everything that is being said.

6. Tab Nightmares – Solved!

Woops, closed a tab online by mistake? Press Ctrl + Shift +T. Or Cmd + Shift + T for Mac.

7. Time Yourself

You can use Google as a timer by typing “Set timer ( x ) minutes” into the search bar.

8. Essay Word Counts – a shortcut

Make an essay longer: Hit Ctrl+F, search “.” and change the font of the periods from 12 to 14. They look exactly the same but will make your paper significantly longer.
