Wallet Friendly Travel Destinations

Travel is essential. But, traveling doesn’t always have to break the bank. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to see a new and exciting destination, but not put yourself into a whole lot of debt doing so. If you want something a little more “exotic” than a staycation, there are some terrific options out there for wallet friendly travel. We’ve got a list of places you can visit that are sure to tick all those travel boxes, but not leave you penniless when you return home.

Gili Islands, Indonesia

If you’re looking for a wallet friendly travel destination that includes some fabulous beaches, look no further than Indonesia. In particular, might we suggest the Gili Islands. The water is the stuff of dreams, the beaches feature gorgeous white sand. One of the islands boasts a genuine sunken ship. Another is a popular spot to view turtles in their natural environment. This place was basically made for a lazy beach vacation. The snorkeling and coral reef formations are also top notch. Best of all? It’s cheap! You can find stays at some absolutely stunning villas for as little as around AED 110 a night. Food and drink are also a steal, when it comes to price. You can expect to eat well for as little as around AED 18-55 AED a day. If you absolutely must leave the beach, you can rent a motorbike for a bargain as well.

Barga, Italy

So, Italy typically isn’t cheap. In fact, you might be rather surprised to find it on a list of wallet friendly travel destinations. However, it’s all about location. Barga, Italy can give you all that Italian/European charm at a fraction of the price of other parts of the country. It’s located in the Tuscan region of Italy, just about an hour from Florence. The food and art scene are alive and well in Barga, and the medieval town drips charm from every corner. The natural scenery is breathtaking as well, as the town is nestled in a valley. Winter is a real steal here, and you can get excellent accommodations for as little as around AED 175 a night. It’s also a place that is relatively overlooked by tourists, which is always a plus. If you enjoy your grapes, this is a fantastic place to try some local wines.

Gaziantep, Turkey

About a 90 minute flight from Istanbul, you’ll find Gaziantep, Turkey. The city itself has plenty of bustle and things to do and see. Travelers have described it as having all the charm and excitement of Istanbul, but at a fraction of the cost. Foodies will be pleased to know than Gaziantep is one of eight UNESCO Creative Gastronomy Cities in the world. That makes it well worth a trip all on its own in our book.

But, you’ll also find plenty of museums, ancient mosques to marvel at, ruins to visit, and the once proud little village of Halfeti is nearby. Halfeti was a traditional village, that boasts the old Ottoman architecture. However, part of it is under water. It’s an interesting site to see and close enough to make a day trip out of visiting. Good food and cool sights to see make this a not to miss wallet friendly travel destination.
