Fitness classes to burn 500 calories and more

Having a gym in our buildings or compounds is nothing uncommon in the region but this doesn’t mean that we make the most of it. Let’s face it… Sometimes what we need is to optimize our time and therefore, our workouts. If you are going to dedicate one hour to exercise, plus 20 minutes to get ready, and then go through the hassle of having to wash your hair whereas you washed it already in the morning, it better be worth it! One way to look at it, is to look at how many calories you will burn per session, (if your goal is to lose weight and sweat as much as possible of course). You can choose to push yourself and use a fitness monitor and decide to stop only when you have reached your goal, or…you can go to any of the below classes with your eyes closed as they are guaranteed to burn more than 500 calories per class.

EMS

“500 calories in 20 minutes”. Yes, you read that right! EMS stands for “Electrical Muscle Stimulation”. You may have seen this before; the ads show people working out in black outfits that look like wetsuits except they are covered with wires and connected to a machine. The machine sends electrical shocks that make your muscles contract. Adding to the mix an instructor asking you to maintain a certain position, EMS is said to give you the effect of a 3-hour workout in 20 minutes only.

Barry’s Bootcamp

“Burn up to 1,000 calories”. We were happy with 500, but 1,000 for a 50-minute workout? Yes, yes and yes! Meet Barry’s Bootcamp, a concept coming from the US, founded in 1998 and recently launched in Dubai. Barry’s bootcamp is your ultimate high-intensity workout that takes place in the signature “red room”. Darkroom with red lights, you will be alternatively running on a treadmill and swap to a mat workout with weights for the duration of the class.

Orange Theory

Another concept coming from the US, Orange Theory was built on the science that a specific workout can kick start your metabolism and allow you to continue to burn calories even after the workout is done. The classes are group classes but with a personal trainer who makes sure that every single participant is benefiting from the class as much as possible.
