But that’s not where the robotic fun ends! Pause a moment to watch the robot fish swim around in their aquarium. When you’re ready to head up to your room for a little R&R, you’ll find there’s another little egg shaped robot inside waiting for you. If you or one of your travel companions is a serious bibliophile, then this is your place! This pod style hostel has you sleeping among shelves of books and comic books which you are free to enjoy during your stay. Choose from compact, standard and double beds, but be advised that this is a pretty sparse set up. Toilets and showers are also shared, so if you’re looking for privacy, you may want to turn elsewhere. Privacy issues aside, this is still a charming and quirky option that you might want to try for at least one evening of your holiday. Free wifi is also available.
Nestled in the center of bustling, modern Tokyo on a side street, you will find a hotel that lets you take a step back in time. This ryokan, or traditional hotel, lets you get a taste of the Japan of old in the days of samurais and geishas. Here you will be surrounded by Japanese antiques and sleep on futons on tatami matted floors. A yukata, or light cotton kimono, is provided with your room for you to wear to relax in, sleep in, or use as a bath robe. This hotel also gets top marks by travelers for amazing staff, just one more reason to visit.
Don’t let the innocuous enough sounding name fool you. This hotel is hiding a secret! A BIG secret. Okay, maybe not so much really hiding, as when you approach the building the thing you are sure to notice is the giant Godzilla head popping out of it. This hotel offers some pretty standard rooms, but there are exceptions with rooms that are specifically Godzilla themed and some which offer views of the mammoth creature itself! There are also monster themed treats to help you commemorate your stay.

With its breath-taking and well executed mix of both the old and the new, this hotel perhaps encapsulates Japan better than any of the others on the list. Part sleek and modern, part sparse and dappled with antiques, eras collide in the most beautiful way. Prices are reasonable and the building itself is even so cool that it won an architecture award. The hotel also offers a number of activities from tea ceremonies to origami workshops. So worth a stay!
