There’s More To Spain Than Barcelona

Beautiful Barcelona is one of the most visited and popular cities in Spain, and for good reason! But the country has many more history-rich natural havens to offer. Below are some of the more underrated cities in Spain that you must visit:

Cordoba

If you’re looking to avoid the tourist-packed city of Granada but still have the chance to experience fascinating archeological marvels from Morocco first-hand, Cordoba is the place for you. Although it may not hold the infamous Alhambra fortress, the architectural wonder of the Great Mosque of Cordoba more than makes up for it. The Mosque holds ancient artifacts from both the Islamic and Roman eras, while the outside court is ornate with orange trees and arched hallways.

Make sure to keep some time aside for relaxation and try out one of the many traditional Hammams in the area. Oh and of course you can’t be in Andalucía without trying some of the delicious local foods.

Toledo

Located to the south of the busy streets of Madrid, you’ll find the old city of Toledo. There, between the scenic windmills, the famous Spanish tale of Don Quixote was born. The area is home to plains and vineyards which make it an ideal spot to be explored on foot. If you’re on the hunt for historical gems, go and explore the Synagogue of El Transito, known for its intricate decoration.

Jerez De La Frontera

Another lively Andalusian city, this place is bursting with a lively nightlife scene and flamenco music unlike the quieter cities of Granada and Seville. Prepare for a total foodie trip as you simply can’t miss the tapas and La Carbona Michelin star restaurant during your visit. Be sure to book in advance for this world-renowned restaurant! For your touch of history, hit up Alcazar, the Moroccan castle at the heart of the city, surrounded by a stunning garden.

Ronda

Although a small town with just over 35K inhabitants, Ronda is truly amazing. With the 120m high Puente Nuevo bridge cutting right across the town, separating it’s old and new area, the riverside spot has a fantastic view of the Guadalevin river. Not only that, but Ronda is also the modern day home to Spain’s world-famous Bullfighting events, and The Real Maestranza arena – one of the oldest and most beautiful arenas in Spain. It was built in 1785 by the architect Jose Martine De Aldehuela.

Almuñécar

Spain offers a wide array of choice when it comes to fulfilling your beach-bumming desires, one of which is the touristy city of Almuñécar. And because we’ll never recommend anywhere to you without an element of cultural wonder, tucked between the rugged hills, blue beaches and olive trees of the city, you can discover Middle Aged buildings and structures to blow your mind. The most important of these structures is, without doubt, the Castillo de San Miguel. Feeling like an afternoon stroll? The city’s woven streets and old houses make for truly picture worthy
