The water of this lake is so clear and so turquoise, that you might just think you’re at Bora Bora instead of Mexico. This gorgeous spot is located towards the Belize/Mexico border and is a super popular spot for snorkeling and diving due to the water clarity. We could definitely see ourselves spending some time here. Like a month, or four.

Chances are good that you’ve never seen a lake quite like this one. For starters, it’s pink! Well, it’s pink most often. It can also shift colors depending on time of day and season. This marine lake is plenty salty, and moves between hues of reds, purples, and of course pinks. Australia also has another pink like, Lake Hillier. But you don’t get much color shift there.

In the best of times, something good can sometimes come from a bad situation. Back in 2010, Attabad village was devastated when a landslide buried it. The nearby river, Hunza River, was blacked off, stopping its flow. As a result, the village flooded and people were forced from the region. Out of that tragedy emerged Attabad Lake. Today, this spot is hugely popular, offering plenty of activities out on the water. Some hotels and campsites have even sprung up around the destination, and the tourism is helping the locals to recoup from the landslide.

It’s found in Banff National Park and requires about an hour drive into the park to be reached. But oh, the views that await you when you arrive.
