Dewy Foundation Battle: Fenty vs. Anastasia

I went out to Sephora and tried the newest dewy foundations on the market, so you don’t have to. I’ve put Fenty Beauty Pro Filtr Hydrating Foundation (175 AED) up against Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Luminous Foundation (210 AED) to see which of the much-anticipated foundations reigns supreme. Fenty’s foundation is full coverage while Anastasia’s is medium.

I carried out an experiment and some research to conclude which one is better. Keep reading to find out which product is victorious!

In-Store Challenge

It’s always a bit scary to shade match in-store. The lighting is off, and the salespeople aren’t so helpful. Both foundations offer 50 shades – it could be overwhelming.

Fenty Beauty’s soft matte foundation has a habit of oxidizing which made me go a shade lighter than what I’m used to. It did oxidize ever so slightly. Anastasia’s foundation offered a perfect match for my skin tone. The brand was particularly praised online for offering many undertones making it easier for users to find their perfect match.

Side by Side Test

Back home, I applied the water-resistant Luminous Foundation on one side of my face and the Pro Filtr on the other side with no primer underneath. I used a damp beauty sponge to maintain the dewy effect. Soon enough, some problems started showing up.

On first glance, Anastasia’s foundation was almost matte on my combo skin. It had a velvet finish, unlike the luminous one it promised. However, that was the least of my issues because it was at that point, I noticed the extremely exaggerated texture on the Fenty side. Unless you have perfectly smooth skin, you’re very likely to struggle with this foundation.

Also, I noticed both foundations settled into my fine lines, meaning I had to set them with powder in these areas which was slightly frustrating since it made them lose their dewy quality wherever I had fine lines. I should also point out the Pro Filtr was scented in almost a baked goods type of way. Some people dig this, and others (like me) don’t.

It was easy to apply product on top of both foundations, and they wore nicely through the night but didn’t give me the glowy effect I expected from either of them. Also, the texture on the Fenty side didn’t get any better.

Individual Test

The next day I wore Anastasia’s foundation all alone. Its coverage is incredible, and it made my skin look really smooth, but still, not dewy enough, even with a hydrating primer underneath. Perhaps it’s the water-resistant quality. I’d definitely give it another go, however.

There wasn’t much difference the second time around I tried the Fenty foundation. It was formulated to be so dewy that you end up looking overly textured.

Crown Goes To…

While neither is particularly the best foundation on the planet, the better of the two is certainly Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Luminous Foundation, with lots of moisturizer and primer underneath.
