Makeup Tips for the Cooler Weather

It’s safe to say that the warm weather is a thing of the past (at least until next season). The humidity is gone, the days are shorter and there’s rain everywhere. Finally, winter is upon us! And with that being said, your makeup routine probably has to change a little. Here’s what you can do to save your makeup from the cooler weather!

1. Hydrate and moisturize

If your skin is on the dryer side, you might want to do a bit more than dab on a few drops of moisturizer. Buy a product like The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Hydration Support Formula Duo and massage it into your skin. Top it off with your favorite moisturizer to lock that hydration in. If you’re willing to splurge a little, try Tatcha’s Water Cream moisturizer. It’s thick and provides a great base for makeup.

2. Avoid the Silicone

While silicone-based primers are a staple in a lot of makeup user’s collections, they’re not very suitable for the winter. They won’t harm your skin, but they’ll probably make it look dry. Instead, you should try priming with a dewy primer like Nyx’s Honey Dew Me Up. It’s moisturizing and gripping. Also, it reduces the appearance of discoloration and redness on the skin. The gold flecks are supposed to make your skin look radiant as well.

3. Highlight first

How could you do that? Easy, with liquid highlight! No matter how cloudy it is or how soon the sun sets, you’ll always glow. Check out Fenty Beauty’s Liquid Diamond Bomb Glitter Highlighter. Use the roll on to apply the product all over your face and then apply your foundation on top. The tiny specks will shine through and make you glow all day, and night long. You could top it off with powder highlight after finishing the rest of your makeup. After all, there is no such thing as too much highlight.

4. Go light with the powder

Baking could be fun and definitely helps your makeup last very long. However, you might not want to go too heavy-handed with it during the winter. Use pressed powder (like MAC’s Blot Powder) instead of loose powder. If you do insist on using loose powder, go for a more lightweight one such as Glossier’s Wowder.

5. Less matte products

Mattel liquid lips were all the rage last summer, but lip glosses are a lot more suitable for the winter. Go for this product to help you look a lot less dry. The same applies for dewy foundations, creamy blushes and contour sticks. These should be your staple product for a fresh look throughout the winter. Check out Colourpop – they’ve just released a Pretty Fresh line perfect for the season.
