Fun Activities To Do In Ras Al Khaimah

If you need a departure from the hectic day to day of the big city, a lil trip out to Ras Al Khaimah might be just what the doctor ordered. Ras Al Khaimah is the northernmost region in the UAE, and is full of all sorts of fun goodies. There’s mountains and beaches and history and desert. The only thing you really have to decide before you go is what sort of adventure you’re looking for. For some ideas of great activities to check out while in the region, scroll on down.

Live It Up On Marjan Island

As far as beaches go, the one that surrounds the 4 coral shaped islands and archipelago that make up the Al Marjan Island Resort is pretty stellar. The colors of that Persian Gulf water are spectacular, and the beach itself is lovely and clean. While you can certainly always just lounge on the sand and catch some rays, the resort also offers a lot of fun water activities. There’s kayak and Jetski rentals, for starters. There’s also paddle boats, banana boats, donuts, water skiing, windsurfing, and kite rentals available. You can rent for as few as 15 minutes, if you want to squeeze a lot in. Prices to stay are also highly reasonable at the resort.

Zippity Do Dah

We can’t talk about fun activities to do in Ras Al Khaimah, and not mention the world’s longest zipline! Thrill seekers will definitely be all about taking a ride on the 2.83km long ride that is Jebel Jais Flight. Feel like a bird, or your favorite super hero, as you whiz along the rocky and mountainous countryside at speeds of up to 150kms. At times, you’ll be dangling a staggering 1680 kms above sea level. While this all may sound rather intimidating, it is one incredible experience. Even though you may have a few “Oh man, this is high!” type moments, it is an amazing feeling to come this close to flying. And did we mention dem views?

Go Hiking or Biking Through The Hajar Mountains

The majestic Hajar Mountains play a huge role in the scenery of Ras Al Khaimah. Geologists love the area, as it has the world’s greatest surface area of exposed igneous rock from the oceanic crust. Yup, what is now mountains and deserts used to be far beneath the ocean. You can camp and picnic in many spots along the mountain range. But, be forewarned: this is the wilderness. This means don’t expect much access to facilities, gas stations, etc. Also, the Hajar Mountains also extend into Oman, so if you expect your hike or ride to be of the marathon variety, you’ll want your passport handy.
