Haunted Places You Can Stay Overnight

If given the opportunity to stay overnight in an allegedly haunted place, would you do it? Skeptic or believer, the experience would certainly be one of a kind. From haunted hotels to mysterious castles, there are quite a few places where you can spend a spooky evening. Of course, it would be entirely up to you if you actually managed to get any sleep. Your inner ghost hunter just might have you up all night. Let’s check in, shall we?

Ruthin Castle Hotel: Wales

Though today it’s a hotel, Ruthin Castle was an actual castle dating back to the 13th century. Here you’ll find lovely guest rooms, a luxurious spa, and even upscale dining. But, you’ll also find a drowning pool, a whipping pit, and actual dungeons. Thanks to its sordid history, the castle is alleged to be quite haunted. Of particular interest, is the castle’s so called Lady Grey. When the lady of the house discovered that her husband was having an affair with a local peasant girl, she did the perfectly logical thing and murdered the poor girl. Lady Grey was put on trial and sentenced to death. Her favorite places to haunt are the banquet hall and the castle battlements. Fancy an overnight?

Malmaison Oxford Castle: England

This place would make for one interesting overnight stay. Malmaison started off as a medieval castle built by William the Conqueror in 1071.Then, it became a Victorian era prison. Now, it’s a boutique style hotel. No few atrocities have been committed on the grounds of the hotel. For starters, while it functioned as a prison, it housed some of the area’s most notorious criminals. Prisoners were not exactly treated kindly, and there were numerous reports of torture. Executions also happened here. There’s also the matter of Mary Blandy, who was hanged here after she poisoned her father with arsenic in 1752. Many visitors have claimed to see Mary herself wandering the grounds. There are also reports of white mists, ghostly monks in white robes, disembodied voices and footsteps, and more.

Dragsholm Slot: Denmark

To look at the bright and cheery facade of this hotel, you wouldn’t think that it is considered to be one of the most haunted hotels in all of Europe. If you book an overnight, you’ll be sharing the place with over 100 ghosts. The most frequently talked about of these entities is the resident White Lady. The apparition is said to be that of a girl whose hand in marriage had been promised to a nobleman by her father. But, the girl loved another man of non-noble birth. After discovering she was pregnant with a common man’s child, her father fell into a mad fury. In his anger, he had her entombed inside the walls while she was still alive. Many believed this was just a story, until renovations done in 1910 revealed the remains of a woman in a white dress inside the walls. Ready to book an overnight?
