Skiing in the Middle East & North Africa

Skiing season is here, and good news is, you don’t need to travel countless hours on a plane to reach a good skiing resort. While the Middle East is more associated with deserts, sand and sun, know that there are great opportunities for skiing enthusiasts just a few hours from home.

1. Lebanon

Lebanon counts no less than 6 ski resorts. The most popular one is Mzaar resort in Kfardebian village, 1h30 drive away from Beirut. 42 slopes and 80 km of tracks.

Last but not least, Mzaar Ski Resort is actually a real bargain if you compare with Europe or other ski resorts. Count $34 for adults for the full day on weekdays and $67 on weekends.

2. Turkey

Turkey is one of those countries you will enjoy visiting all year long. During winter, you can pick amongst a dozen of ski resorts. The most popular one is Mount Palandoken. Great thing about this resort is that you can visit anytime from November to April, which is quite a long ski season. Moreover, this ski resort is also the resort of choice because of the quality of the snow and having the longest slopes of Turkey.

3. Iran

Iran is famous for having fantastic landscapes and outdoor spaces. With more than 19 ski resorts all across the country, skiing has been a popular activity since the 1930’s. The snow conditions rival with the best European ski slopes. The biggest resort is called Dizin and is located 70km away from Tehran. The second biggest resort to discover is called Darbandsar, it has been modernised a few years back. Darbandsar is the trendy resort that keeps on improving.

4. Morocco

Morocco is just the dreamy country for a holiday. The gorgeous riads, Majorelle garden, incredible food and just like if we needed more to love it, they also offer amazing skiing conditions. The main resort is called Oukaimeden, located just 75km north from Marrakech.

5. Indoor ski

It is not possible to talk about skiing in the Middle East without mentioning indoor skiing. Ski Dubai has been around for 15 years already! Time flies, huh? Ski Dubai is the only way you can ski in the UAE. The indoor ski resort still offers 5 slopes and almost real-life skiing conditions. Think -1 degree all year long. One great thing about the indoor ski resort is the amount of options of packages. Corporate, birthday parties, school packages, and even the ski school. You may not know this, but another indoor ski resort is set to open any time soon in Muscat, Oman. It will be called Snow Village and located in the new Mall of Muscat.
