5 Apps That Let You “Try On” Hair Colors

Thinking you might want to do something new and exciting with your hair, but unsure of what the results will look like? Ever wonder what you might look like rocking a purple mane or a lighter shade of brunette?

These apps allow you to experiment with hair colors without any actual commitment! Whether you use them just for fun and giggles or as a means to find the perfect color to suit you, these apps can be a lot of fun.

1. Teleport Hair Color

Available on both iOS and Android, (though listed as simply Teleport on iOS), this app is easy and fun to use.  Simply upload a photo of yourself from your existing camera roll or snap a fresh photo of yourself and watch the magic happen! You can choose from a myriad of hair colors, some natural and other less..natural! A collage function allows you to see yourself with several different hair colors at once for easy side-by-side comparison. The iOS version offers more options, even a skin color change feature just in case you want to see what you might look like with green skin like The Hulk.

3. Best Hair Color Changer App (iOS only)

This app has some incredibly detailed options! Where as other apps on the list only offer an overall color, this one allows for multi-shades for a fade or ombre look.  Though this app does require you to draw the outline of your hair to use in photos, it does also make sure you can really fine-tune your perimeters for a more realistic looking color job!

4. Modiface Color Studio

If you are mostly interested in the tamer side of the hair color spectrum, Modiface would be your go-to on this list!  It foregoes the more flamboyant shades and sticks to the more tame variations of blacks, browns, reds, and golds. Snap a pic, then trace your hairline and voila! Basic shades are available for free with the option to buy more variations to get the hue just right.

5. Hair Color Changer Real

If you want a more hands-on experience or really only want to target portions of your hair rather than an all-over color, you might want to give this app a try. The interface makes it a good one to experiment with possible highlights or low-lights.  You can control the depth of hue as well as smooth edges and zoom to make sure you get the most accurate coverage. Use a brush to “paint” on the color and enjoy the new fabulous you!
