I know that for most of us living in Dubai, it’s delivery-every-thing. I buy all my groceries online, but nothing compares to the thrill of a good baqala hunt. Sifting through all the junk and finding the jewels…childhood candies catching your eye and taking you right back to the 90’s. The shock of hearing the cashier say that it costs 1 dirham.
I recently hit up a few baqalas to bring you guys this list of sweet cheap thrills. Five doesn’t nearly do justice to the spectrum of sweetness that’s out there, so please do us all a favor and let us know what your fave candies are in the comments 😉

Okay, this may not be the BEST chocolate spread in the world, but dragging every last drop out of that little plastic tube with your teeth makes it super satisfying 😛 Also, at 1.5 dirhams for a pack of 3 sticks, it’s basically 50 fils a pop.

One of my fave candies growing up! These babies are sweet and chewy and as retro as they come. I still get excited every time I spot a pack at the baqala.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those who simply bite into their marshmallow ropes, and the special ones who eat them one color at a time. I fall under the second group, but both ways result in total satisfaction.
Growing up, my best friend was obsessed with these. I didn’t get it then, but I do now. This little coffee-flavored candy is sweet and strong and 1 dirham a pack!
These guys are definitely a little harder on your teeth 😛 But I bought them anyway (for 50 fils each) and they were a perfectly sweet and crunchy snack.
Here are 10 more snacks you’ll definitely remember if you grew up in the U.A.E!
