Reem Kanj Travels: Where to Stay in Marrakesh

I’m so happy that one of my favorite cities in the world has no shortage of choice when it comes to deciding on where to stay. When it comes to Marrakesh, this decision will completely influence the type of Moroccan vacation you have. Whether you want something super luxurious or authentically traditional, my experience from multiple trips to Morocco will have you covered.

El Fenn

El Fenn is not only my favorite hotel in Marrakesh, but it’s probably one of my favorite places in general.

It’s not just because of how unique and carefully designed the riad is, but also because El Fenn radiates a certain energy that I can’t quite explain. There’s a sense of positive calm and pure relaxation when staying here. This might have a lot to do with the fact that it’s located in the middle of the souks and completely hidden away.

El Fen offers so much richness by way of it’s carefully curated rooms and courtyards, each one different to the last and has two incredibly relaxing pools to choose from and lounge by, one in the main courtyard and another on the roof. Their boutique has offerings from local artisans and designers that will have you wishing you brought an extra suitcase and the rooftop terrace will offer you the perfect spot to witness fiery sunsets overlooking the souks whilst sipping on delicious drinks.

Another one of my favorite takeaways from El Fenn is that the staff of the riad are familiar, warm and the type of team who are more than likely to remember your name and face upon your highly likely return visit.

La Mamounia

It’s one of the most highly Instagrammed hotels in the world, and for a very good reason. La Mamounia is high end and luxurious but still maintains a very traditional Moroccan feel. The rooms will have you feeling as though you are a part of the Royal Family and enjoying the garden views from your balcony will only reinforce that feeling.

It offers so much in terms of restaurant choice, recreation and even shopping that it might actually be hard to leave and explore the city.

When staying here, you have to try the spa and finish off with a dip in the famous indoor pool.

Dar El Sedaka

Designed by Jean-François Fourtou and fully refurbished by Philippe Forrestier, Dar El Sadaka is the one property, (Marrakesh or not), that I can say I have truly never experienced anything like before.

The weird and wonderful grounds, located in the Palamarie, are home to the House that Fell from the Sky and the Giant’s’ House and besides the uniquely themed guest rooms, will have you entertained for your entire stay.

It’s one of the most magical and surreal places you can imagine, all whilst maintaining a sophisticated flair and leaving you with a taste for wanting to discover more.
