Things To Do In Jeddah, KSA

The lovely port city of Jeddah is well known the world over as being the gateway to the Islamic holy cities of Medina and Mecca. But, this beautiful and vibrant city offers much more to would-be visitors. There’s a gorgeous historic district with roots dating back to the 7th century, lovely beaches, posh resorts, and even amusement parks. There truly is something for everyone to fall in love with in Jeddah. If you’re contemplating a trip, here are some of the absolute must-see attractions.

The World’s Tallest Lighthouse

When you visit Jeddah, you will definitely want to spend some time exploring the area around the Jeddah Islamic Seaport. You can watch the ships come and go from the nearby pier, wander the bustling Central Fish Market, or just spend some time strolling about by the waterside. On the north side of this gorgeous area, you’ll find the Jeddah Lighthouse, which just so happens to be the world’s tallest. How tall you might ask? Well, this still active lighthouse towers over 133 meters. While you can’t go inside the lighthouse, or the Seaport itself, it is still a stunning view and worth a visit, especially at night.

Wander Jeddah Corniche

This is like several must-see spots in one. Located along the gorgeous Red Sea, Jeddah Corniche graces many a list of top-spots to visit when in the city. It’s actually a 30km coastal portion of Jeddah that includes several high profile attractions, resorts, and fabulous eateries. Also not to be missed are the nearly 30 impressive bronze statues. Corniche is home to King Fahd’s Fountain, which is the largest on the planet. Also of interest is the breath-taking Fatima Al-Zahara Mosque, also known as the “floating mosque”. Come high tide, the exquisite building really does appear to be floating atop the sea.

Shop, Shop, And Shop Some More

Jeddah offers a nearly endless bounty of shopping opportunities. If you prefer your shops modern and air-conditioned, you’ll want to get spendy over at The Red Sea Mall. Or, there’s also the sprawling Mall of Arabia, covering over 260k sqkm of space! But, also not to be missed for a more traditional experience are the city’s fabulous Souks. Souk al-Alawi, Souk Gabel, and Souk Al Nada offer a bit of history with their market stalls and collection of goods.

Get Your History Fix In Al Balad

Al Balad was founded in the 7th century, and today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you’ll find the famous old coral houses, though some of them are in rather bad states of disrepair. Still, even though some of their initial splendor may have waned, the buildings are hauntingly gorgeous. The area itself is well worth getting lost in, with the winding streets hiding surprises around almost every corner. There are open air-markets, plenty of historic architecture, and beautiful hidden mosques.
