Where In The World: Facts Edition

Ready to play a travel guessing game? For this Where In the World entry, we’re doing a facts edition. We’re about to unload a myriad of cool and interesting facts about a mystery country somewhere in the wide and wonderful world. It’s up to you to try to puzzle out what this mystery destination is. Think you’d put Sherlock Holmes to shame? Well then put on your thinking cap and let us educate, and possibly stump, you. And as ever, no Googling!

It’s Home To The Driest Desert In the World

The country that is our secret local contains the Atacama Desert. Some parts of this desert have received no rain at all since records began being kept. Overall, the average yearly rainfall is a paltry 1.5 cm. In spite of its perpetual dryness, the desert is still a rather beautiful place to behold with some truly gorgeous rock formations.

You Can Find The World’s Biggest Swimming Pool There

If you love to swim, you might just need to make a pilgrimage to our facts edition destination. Swimming from end to end would be the equivalent of swimming 20 Olympic sized pools. The saltwater behemoth is over 914 metres long, and reaches depths of over 35 metres. Boats actually sail on this thing. This Guinness World Record Holder is housed at the San Alfonso del Mar Resort, and contains just under 250 million litres of water.

Penguins Live There

Penguins don’t only live in cold places. From an earlier facts edition clue, you know the climate here can lean towards the warm side. The penguins that call our mystery place home don’t seem to mind the warmer temps at all. There are quite a few areas of this country where you can see them frolicking about. In the Northern coast, there are over 12,000 breeding pairs of the tuxedo clad darlings. Several areas along the southern parts of the country also serve as home to large and healthy colonies of the birds.

The World’s Oldest Mummy Is From There

This is the facts edition, so we definitely can’t lie. Most people would naturally likely assume that Egypt is where you might find the world’s oldest examples of artificially mummified people. But, it’s not so. Egyptian mummies date to around 3000 BC. But, the Chinchorro mummies were discovered in our mystery location and date to 5050 BC.

It Has A Ton Of Volcanoes

With a number that totals just over 1300, our facts edition destination is seriously riddled with volcanoes. A rather large percentage of these are still active, around 500 of them!

It Has A Super Long Coastline

If you love hitting up the beach, you might want to book a flight to our country in question. With a coastline that stretches around 6500 kms long, it has one of longest in the entire world. Think of all the moonlight beach strolls you could take. Or maybe they would be more marathons than strolls.

There’s Some Famous Heads Off Its Coast

One final fact for our fact edition of Where in The World. And this one might just give it all away. Off that long coast we mentioned lies an island that is famous the world over. On that island stand 867 moai statutes that are totally iconic. The statues can be as tall as 6 metres tall. You’ve probably heard of the island before: Easter Island.
