While you may know that eggs are high in protein, did you know that the high content can help improve both the shine and strength of your hair? You can make a hair mask by whisking together the egg and 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. Apply the mask to your hair with your hands and then wrap up in either a shower-cap or a warm, damp towel. After about 15 minutes, wash and condition your hair as normal for a near instant boost! If your hair is oily, you can modify the mask by using the egg-whites only. For dry hair, try adding an extra yolk to the mix!

Use Argan Oil

With its rich vitamin E content, Argan oil is a go-to for hair that is lack-luster due to dryness. Pollution, blow-drying, curling irons, and general coloring of hair can do a number on your strands! Argan oil penetrates the strands and offers a much-needed pick-me-up of vitamins and essential fatty acids. Several hair products and sprays are readily available that have argan oil in them but consider buying a bottle of it pure for use on skin and nails as well.  Smoothing a few drops into your hair can improve scalp health as well!

Get Some Raw Honey

While honey has a myriad of beauty applications, you may not immediately think of it as a restorative to hair shine. It can help reverse sun damage and strengthen your hair as well. Application is quick and easy. Simply mix 3 tablespoons of honey with 2 cups of warm water and then slowly apply to your hair as you would a shampoo. Let sit for 10 minutes and then rinse. Honey can also stimulate hair growth and if applied and allowed to sit for an hour, can cause natural highlights without all those harmful chemicals!

Skip These Bad Habits

There are many little things you might be doing that you don’t know are actually damaging your hair and diminishing its shine! When you dry your hair, gently pat and squeeze rather than giving it a rub down to avoid breakage. If you frequently use styling tools such as curling or straightening irons, look for a heat activating spray to protect your hair from cooking under that direct heat. If you can, blow dry your hair less often as the heat damages it. A small break from these harsh treatments is enough to improve shine its own!

Eat More Fish

Omega 3 fatty acids are like feeding your hair shine steroids! Salmon is incredibly high in Omega 3’s, as are oysters and caviar. But if fish and seafood aren’t your thing, there are other foods you can eat to boost that shine. Walnuts, eggs, chia seeds, and soybeans also pack a punch! Hey, at least now you’ve got another excuse to eat more sushi!
