As home to the Pharaohs and one of the oldest existing civilizations, Egypt has come to be known worldwide for its endless bounty of artefacts, archaeological marvels, and history aplenty. But Egypt also houses unique natural marvels that you simply can’t miss if you ever find yourself around.

Having always been an attraction for tourists means we all know of the classic spots in the country, or at least we think we do. You have the pyramids, Alexandria, Sharm al-Sheik, Luxor, but what’s next?

As one of the largest countries in the African continent Egypt has so much more to offer than you can imagine. From desert planes to crystal clear waters, magnificent blue salt lakes or even dreamy mountain views – there’s just not enough time to see it all.

If it’s a tropical holiday you’re after, say no more. A desert escape? Egypt’s got you covered. In the mood for some hiking and mountain exploration? An easy request!

Aptly named Um Al Donia (Mother of the World) in the Arabic speaking world, there’s something for everyone on its eternally diverse landscape.

Take a walk through the old town in Cairo and plunge right in the middle of Egypt’s rich history. Aswan and Nuweiba are where you’ll find colorful, handcrafted objects and buildings of all sorts. For a pause from your daily life, there are some areas in Siwa and Sina that will completely disconnect you from the modern comforts of even electricity.

If you can’t travel to Egypt just yet, or you need a little bit of travel inspo before you go, here are the spots you can’t miss. Not quite as crowded with tourists as the more popular destinations, these relatively untouched havens will surely transport you.
